Good Friday

I never really understood why the day set aside to remember Jesus dying on the cross was called "Good Friday". It seems like a bad thing, so why would it be called good?
It finally became clear to me this year. It's good because of the Gospel, the good news. That Jesus would die the death that we deserve because of our sin, and through faith in Him alone, we would get salvation that we don't deserve.

I wanted to do a little something with the kids, but am not that creative when it comes to things like this. Thankfully, there is the internet :)

I found this simple craft that beautifully communicates the message of the cross, and what we are truly celebrating this time of year.

It involved cutting...
and coloring...
They were making gift boxes that opened into crosses printed with John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
And that is good news indeed.
