Kate got to go to a week-long art camp at our local community center. The theme was 'Art Around the World'. I thought it would be a great lead-in as we are about to begin studying World History this year at Reed Academy. She learned about many different countries during their time this week, and got to work with several different art mediums. Every day she'd come home with stories from the countries they 'visited'. Really cool stuff...
Every day I heard Kate talk about her mosaic she was making after they had 'visited' Italy.
Her "Haiti Lady"
"Mommy, I want picture."
Ok, sweetness.
Then she says, "I see me?"
so she can look at the picture I just took on the camera.
And, sidenote, it melts me that she wears her sunglasses on top of her head like I do.
Putting the finishing touches on her Indian batik.
Egyptian portrait.
Interesting fact she learned: Egyptians always painted their portraits with the head turned to the side.
"Kate" in hieroglyphics.
Egyptian mask
Russian towers and turrets
Weaving (she said this is from all over the world)
Haiti Lady with her three chicks, carrying a basket of fruit on her head.
Italian mosaic, made of tile, river pebbles and sea glass. She grouted it all by herself!
