We just got back from a wonderful week in Hilton Head, SC. We usually go once a year in the early fall with my mom and my sister and brother-in-law. This year was extra special because we decided to rent a house instead of using Mom's timeshare, and Bailey came on vacation with us! The timing of our trip couldn't have been better because it fell 5 days after Josh's surgery. We knew he'd have to take it easy, but the dr. said he could go, so we packed up and off we went! We're still learning the area around here and had no idea how long it would take us to get there. We were pleasantly surprised that it took the same amount of time as it used to take us to get there from Buford. Josh was able to rest up and recuperate...what better place to do that than the beach?! The downside was that he couldn't swim at all...definitely a bummer.
Carter was still a baby the last time he was at the beach, and not even walking, so this was a whole new experience for him. He loved it!
I love to watch Kate and Carter play together. Sweet memories.
The house we were staying in had a set of bongo drums in the living room. Didn't take the kids long to find them!

Mom kept the kids one night so Josh and I could go out with Jim and Daria. Check out this beautiful sunset we got to enjoy.

Here's Jim and Daria. We were so glad they were able to come down, even if it was only for the first half of the week. Daria has her own wedding planning business and had to get back to Atlanta for one of her weddings. But we enjoyed the time we did get to have with them, and Bailey enjoyed playing with her 'cousin' Sylvie!

Here is Carter 'reading' to Hudson, with a little help from Mimi :)
We had mostly good weather while we were there. Towards the end of the week, we had a few cloudy days, but since Mom has a timeshare with Marriott, we got to get a day pass to their Grande Ocean property (that's where we usually stay) to use their facilities. The kids were also able to participate in some of the activities. Here is Kate showing off the "Sandy Candy" that she made for her and Carter.

Josh really had to take it easy...no picking up the kids, not much activity, no swimming, etc. But here's a sweet moment with his little girl, enjoying digital cable's music selections.

We went over to Harbour Town one evening to see the lighthouse and get ice cream. The no see um's were out in force, and it was pretty miserable. We were making ourselves laugh at how ridiculous we must have looked walking along, swatting and scratching. No one thought we'd need bug spray! We didn't hang out too long, but long enough to eat an ice cream cone and take a few pictures! You know you're loved by Kate when she'll share her strawberry ice cream with you!

Here's another activity at Grande Ocean...fingerpainting! Notice Carter has no shirt on. His first blob of paint went straight to his mouth, and the second effort went on the front of his shirt. We figured it would be best to just go ahead and take it off. Didn't slow him down any!

Grande Ocean also has an indoor (heated!) swimming pool. We were so glad to be able to take the kids swimming. And Hudson got to hang out with Josh and help him study while Mimi and I swam with Kate and Carter. The week we were there was Fall Break for the seminary, but Josh had his make-up midterm to study for, a paper to write and a book to read and review. So not really a break from schoolwork per se, just a break from classes! Still, if that's how it's going to be, at least he was studying at the beach!
All in all, a great trip! Of course, it went by too fast, as we're finding time with family always does. But we were so thankful to be able to enjoy a wonderful vacation! Thanks Mom!!!
